A hybrid watch face: a mechanical skeleton movement and a digital segment display on one dial, both run by one rotor. The left half is mechanical. The right half is electronic, with a circuit board, a battery cell and large digits for the time and the date. Raise your wrist and the whole movement runs.
- Raise your wrist: the rotor at the top rolls, slows down and comes to rest. It stops in a different place each time and stays there until you look again. For a few seconds after each raise, the whole movement runs.
- The mechanical half: an open skeleton movement with ruby jewels and screws on a metal plate. The wheels turn at the speeds they would have in a real watch: the centre wheel once an hour, the fourth wheel once a minute, the escape wheel twelve times a minute. The balance wheel swings while the movement runs, then ticks once a second.
- The gauge and the mainspring: the gauge in the upper left shows a reading you pick, Body Battery to start with. The mainspring winds up or runs down with the same reading, from slack to fully wound. A long press on the gauge opens the app behind it.
- The electronic half: a circuit board with copper traces, a silver battery cell, a quartz crystal and a chip. The rotor also drives a small generator through a magnet wheel and a copper coil, the way a self-charging quartz watch works.
- The segment display: the hours and minutes in large digits on top, the weekday, the date and a data field below. The unlit segments show faintly behind the lit ones, as on a real display. A bar of five segments shows the watch battery.
- The time twice: read it on the white hands or on the digits, whichever is quicker. Twelve short hour marks sit at the edge of the screen.
- 16 gauge readings, 23 data fields: from steps and heart rate to the temperature, the chance of rain and the wind outside, from the watch's own Garmin weather. A long press on the display opens the data field's app, where the watch has one.
- Make it yours: wheels in gilt gold, rhodium silver or rose gold, the circuit board in green, blue or black, and the digits in amber, aqua or ice.
- Always-on display: the same dial, only dimmer. The digits stay in your colour, and the hands, the hour marks and the gauge pointer stay on the screen.
- Made for each screen: the dial is drawn at its own size for every watch, round or rectangular. MIP watches get their own version in the screen's 64 colours, and the full dial stays on the screen.
- The time format, the leading zero, the battery as time left or percent, the temperature unit, how long the movement runs after a wrist raise (10 seconds, 5 seconds or off) and the fade in from always-on are all adjustable, on the watch or in Garmin Connect on your phone. Everything is drawn on the watch itself - no account, no phone app.
